I can win debut Open - Jamieson
- Published
Glasgow's Scott Jamieson is ranked 158th in the world and contests his first major at Royal St George's this week. He's been speaking to 91热爆 Scotland's David McDaid.
"I always dreamt of being here so to be at The Open is fantastic.
It's not that much of a surprise for me though. I set out to achieve that goal at the start of last week (at the Scottish Open) so I always believed I could to do it, but to actually get it done was fantastic.
I didn't know 100% that the putt at the 18th would get me in but I knew if I missed it then I definitely wouldn't be here, so once I got into the recorders and they told me, it was a great feeling.
Since then it has been a bit hectic. I had to organise flights down and last-minute accommodation - which wasn't very cheap!
In terms of being approached by people, I've had a bit more attention over the last couple of weeks, playing in Scotland and then down here; but I'm not sure most of the people asking for my autograph even know who I am.
My girlfriend Natalie's been given an extra week off work. Her boss was up in Scotland on a golfing holiday and he told her that if I made the Open she could have an extra week off - so I think she was happier than me that I got in this week!
I'm just going to try to treat it like any other golf tournament. At the end of the day, it's me and the golf course. Obviously, the whole environment surrounding it is very different, but if I can treat it like any other tournament hopefully I can give a good show.
I want to win. You've got to shoot for the top. Obviously, there's a lot of great golfers here, so if I can be in contention on Sunday that would be great.
I think there are six Scots in the field this week and there's a lot of us out on the European Tour this year, so it's looking like a promising time.
It's what you dream of as a kid: to play with the best in the world, so being here and competing against these guys is just great."
