Jersey's record Muratti appearance-holder Jack Cannon has been named the new manager of the island's men's representative team.

Cannon, who spent time on the books of AFC Bournemouth as a youngster, played a record 23 times for the Jersey FA side.

He replaces Elliott Powell who stepped down from the role last month to concentrate on his job as manager of club side Jersey Bulls.

Cannon will be assisted by Jersey-born former Macclesfield Town, Coventry City, Rochdale and Aldershot midfielder Peter Vincenti, who was part of Powell's backroom team.

Vincenti's father Peter was one of the island side's most successful managers, winning multiple Muratti vase titles and the 1997 Island Games gold medal.

鈥淚鈥檓 incredibly honoured to take on this position and to lead the island I played for with so much pride for so many years," Cannon said.

"Peter and I work really well together. His appointment provides us with some continuity from the previous regime, which has performed so well in recent years winning a series of consecutive Murattis and that Island Games gold in 2023.

鈥淚鈥檓 keen to get out to watch as many local players as possible over the months ahead to help shape our first squad, and I鈥檓 looking forward to getting started.鈥

The Jersey Football Association had nine applications for the role and interviewed four candidates before picking Cannon - who has had a distinguished club career in the island with St Paul's.

"Jack鈥檚 leadership skills and desire shone through during the interview and application process, along with his extensive tournament experience, and I鈥檓 looking forward to seeing what he, Peter and their backroom team can achieve with this high-quality group of players," said Jersey FA chief executive Tim Pryor.

"There鈥檚 an exciting second half of the season to come and plenty of opportunity for Jack to further build on the successes of recent years, whilst also shaping a team of his own."
