Burnley have made an improved offer for Plymouth forward Morgan Whittaker.

The Clarets have returned with another loan bid with an obligation to buy and an improved fee, after having their opening offer rejected earlier this week.

Last season, Whittaker scored 20 times in 50 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old is contracted to the Pilgrims until 2027.

His 19 league goals helped keep Plymouth in the Championship last season as they finished 21st, a point above the relegation zone.

The winger, who started his career at Derby, signed from Swansea last summer and opened his account for this campaign in the 1-1 draw at QPR last weekend.

Speaking before the second bid was made, Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney called the first offer "laughable".

"We received a bid and it was absolutely miles away from what we would even consider, it was laughable really," Rooney said.

"If a club really wants a player they would try and sort it early because any bids we receive now, even if they pay the money it makes it difficult for us to replace [Morgan]."
