The New Saints wrapped up a 4-1 aggregate win over FK Decic after a 1-1 draw in Montenegro to advance to the Champions League second qualifying round.

Brad Young’s penalty at the end of the first half extended the Cymru Premier champions’ lead in the tie.

Asmir Kajevic pulled a goal back for Decic with 18 minutes but Saints held out.

Saints will now face Hungary’s Ferencvaros in the next round.

Saints took a 3-0 lead into the second leg after an impressive win a week previously at Park Hall in which Young had scored twice.

Manager Craig Harrison has said he was confident his side could add to their goals in the second leg but warned the tie was only at the half-time stage.

Harrison warned of the threats posed by the Montenegrin champions and Alen Mašović hit the post for the hosts inside the opening 15 minutes.

Goalkeeper Connor Roberts had to be alert to save at the feet of Ian Puleio but Saints got the breakthrough two minutes before the break.

Ben Clark was fouled by Caique Augusto and Young stepped up to take the penalty and send keeper Igor Nikic the wrong way.

Ryan Brobbel tried his luck with an effort which was saved by Nikic early in the second half.

At the other end Roberts denied Petar Sekulović before Bojan Matić fired wide a few minutes later.

Decic were turning on the pressure and Roberts made a superb one handed save to deny Luka Malešević.

Kajevic levelled on the night on 72 minutes, with his effort bouncing down off the crossbar and awarded following a VAR review.

Saints held out in the time remaining and could have scored a second in stoppage time when Dan Williams spotted Nikic off his line, but his effort from distance flew over the crossbar.
