Head coach Luke Williams has indicated he would like to keep Yannick Bolasie with the veteran forward's short-term Swansea City contract at an end.

Bolasie made his 10th Swansea appearance in Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Southampton.

The 34-year-old joined the Championship club in November on a two-month deal having been a free agent since the end of last season.

"We need to speak with Yannick," Williams said.

"We wanted the [Southampton] game out the way, then we'll try to have a conversation with Yannick.

"I think he is a fantastic footballer and a really good guy so I have my opinions I am sharing with the football club on Yannick. Let's see if we can make the right decision for everyone involved."

Bolasie came close to scoring his first Swansea goal as Williams' side rallied late on against the Saints.

Russell Martin's Southampton side led 3-1 at the break thanks to goals from Che Adams, Will Smallbone and former Swansea midfielder Flynn Downes, with Jamie Paterson replying for the hosts.

Paterson and Jerry Yates then hit the woodwork late on, with Bolasie twice going close as Swansea created enough chances to come back into a contest which had been dominated by Southampton in the first period.

It was a first defeat since being named Swansea boss for Williams, who says it will take time for his team to adapt to a new style of play.

"If it was something that was a really quick fix, everyone would be doing it," he added.

"It's not going to be that easy. I need to try to get the message across to the players in a clinical way because we are not blessed with time at the moment. It will take time but we need it to take less rather than more."

Williams said Swansea are hopeful Jamal Lowe has not suffered a significant injury after the forward came off in the second half of the Southampton defeat.

"I think maybe Jamal caught something before it's a big issue, but we don't know for sure," he said.
