Stunning goals from 18-year-olds Kai Kennedy and Roddy MacGregor helped Inverness Caledonian Thistle to a comfortable win at Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship.

Rangers loanee Kennedy nipped past Willie Gibson before squeezing in the opener.

MacGregor's lovely cushioned finish and Miles Storey's firm strike then sealed the points after the break.

The win moves Inverness above Ayr United into fourth.

Queen of the South, meanwhile, stay eighth having won just once in their six league matches so far, three points above bottom side Alloa Athletic.

The home side struggled to muster clear chances, while Inverness, led by Kennedy, academy graduate MacGregor, and James Keatings, were impressive in attack.

Kennedy's goal was a mark of his quality as he surged into the box, rolled the ball past Gibson on the by-line before tucking the ball between the legs of Jack Leighfield in the Queen's goal from a tight angle.

MacGregor's intervention was equally impressive as he guided the bouncing ball into the top corner from the edge of the box after Shane Sutherland's cutback.

And Storey capitalised on a failed clearance to hammer the ball into the bottom corner to finish the scoring at Palmerston, having rounded Leighfield only to find the side-netting moments before.

'We didn't do enough' - reaction

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston: "First half I thought we didn't start well at all. Then when we started to actually pass the ball, we created a number of chances, but we obviously weren't clinical. We just never had that spark tonight. We didn't do enough to get anything out of the game."

Inverness CT manager John Robertson: "We're delighted. After such a good performance at home to Raith Rovers, you're worried especially with a young squad that you don't maintain those standards. Our squad's coming back slowly, and we just need to pick up points and keep it going."
