Leeds United are set to sign Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente, the La Liga club have said.

The Spain international would provide back-up for first-choice centre-back pairing Robin Koch and Liam Cooper.

Former Real Madrid player Llorente, 27, can also play in midfield.

Leeds are pursuing their fifth major signing of the summer following promotion to the Premier League.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa has already spent significant money, including a club record 拢26m for former Valencia forward Rodrigo, 拢13m on Freiburg defender Koch, and 拢16m on ex-Wolves winger Helder Costa, who scored twice in the win over Fulham.

A post on Real Sociedad's Twitter page said: "Real Sociedad and Leeds United have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Diego Llorente.

"We wish you the best of luck in this new stage of your career, Diego. Thank you for the three years you have been part of our club. Good luck."

Leeds United are yet to confirm the transfer has been completed.
