Cardiff City captain David Marshall is the best goalkeeper in the Championship, says boss Russell Slade.

Marshall, 30, has impressed this season and made several excellent saves in Saturday's 2-0 win against Reading.

Cardiff rejected a bid from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion for the Scotland international earlier this season.

"I think we have got the best goalkeeper in the Championship," said the Bluebirds manager.

"Even when he's having a quiet day, he normally comes up with that one save which keeps you right in the mix.

"We're delighted with his form at the minute. He's our captain, he's our leader."

West Brom tried to sign Marshall during the summer transfer window, but the Premier League side failed to meet Cardiff's 拢5m asking price for the former Celtic and Norwich goalkeeper.

Although Marshall's excellent form may attract more interest when the transfer window opens again in January, he has committed his future to Cardiff.

Having caught the eye in October's goalless draw against Bristol City, Marshall underlined his value to the Bluebirds with three saves in a minute during the win against Reading which prompted a standing ovation from the Cardiff fans.

"I would say David is the best keeper in the Championship and he's in absolute top form at this moment," added Slade.

"Reading's strength is their movement in forward areas - it's almost like playing against four centre forwards.

"They are going to get opportunities so your keeper has to be on his mettle and concentrating, and that's what David does so well."
