Griffiths has scored nine goals for Celtic this season

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is the Scottish Premiership player of the month for August.

The 25-year-old scored four league goals last month and has found the net nine times so far this season, largely playing as a lone front man.

And while he acknowledges "the manager prefers one up front", Griffiths says he would like to partner Nadir Ciftci in attack.

"Nads and I would be a formidable partnership," he said.

Griffiths admits there was disappointment after Ronny Deila's side lost 2-1 to Aberdeen on Saturday but says there is still a long way to go in the season.

And he denied suggestions that there was disharmony at Celtic.

"No, definitely not," he said.

"If Aberdeen go five points clear tonight [against Hamilton Acadmical on Tuesday] it will be difficult but a lot of football is still to be played."

Griffiths, who joined the Scottish champions in January 2014, scored 20 goals in the last campaign and has been called up to recent Scotland squads.

He is waiting to hear if the Scottish FA will act on comments made about referee Craig Thomson regarding a yellow card that was shown to Aberdeen's Andrew Considine at Pittodrie.

But the striker, who felt Considine should have been dismissed when he fouled him in the penalty area, has since defended his remarks, insisting he did not intend to imply bias or incompetence.
