Fifa's new reform committee had "intense and fruitful discussions" during its first meeting, according to independent chairman Francois Carrard.

The committee was set up in the light of the corruption scandal that engulfed football's governing body.

Former International Olympic Committee director-general Carrard said: "We have made important steps towards delivering meaningful and lasting reform."

Topics covered included governance and Fifa's financial mechanisms.

Carrard said he would give a preliminary update to Fifa's executive committee at the end of the month, and will also announce the make-up of an independent advisory board.

The reform committee is scheduled to meet next from 16-18 October in Bern.

Seven Fifa officials were arrested in May as part of a United States investigation into alleged corruption.
