St Mirren have signed Stuart Carswell, following the midfielder's release from Motherwell.

The 21 year-old has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

Having made his debut for the Steelmen in April 2011, Carswell made 21 appearances last season - starting in 16 games.

"I'm looking forward to a new challenge and getting the club back up where it belongs," Carswell told the
