New Peterborough United striker Joe Gormley wants to be a club "legend", according to Posh boss Dave Robertson.

Gormley, 25, moved to London Road after scoring 40 goals in Northern Ireland for Cliftonville in 2014-15.

"The pleasing thing for me is he decided to sign for us - he wants to be a Peterborough United legend. That was enough for me," said Robertson.

"Joe fitted into our recruitment strategy: he's young, hungry and got a real desire to score goals."

Gormley, the Northern Ireland Football Writers' player of the year in 2014, won back-to-back Irish Premiership titles with Cliftonville.

Robertson said his assistant Grant McCann first made him aware of Gormley.

"Grant initially alerted him to me after he went back to Linfield to play," Robertson told 91Èȱ¬ Radio Cambridgeshire.

"We were tracking him for the last eight weeks of the season. I think he will have a massive impact in League One. He will add goals to our squad and he's one we're delighted to get over the line.

"At the end of the day, a good player is a good player. It doesn't matter were he comes from. We cast our recruitment net far and wide - Joe's record stood out."
