Polish defender Jaroslaw Fojut is set to leave Dundee United despite having a year to run on his contract.

The 27-year-old has returned to his homeland and is not expected back at Tannadice for next season.

Fojut's family returned earlier, having failed to settle in Scotland, and United will accept his decision if he decides to leave.

Pogoni Szczecin, who finished 11th in the Ekstraklasa this season, are favourites to sign the player.

Their sporting director, Maciej Stolarcczyk, said: "This is a very good player with a high level that occurs in the Scottish Premier League."

United would expect a fee for the former Poland Under-23 international, who has made 43 appearances and scored five goals this season.

Fojut began his senior career with Bolton Wanderers and had loan spells with Luton Town and Stockport County before a three-year spell in the Polish top flight with Slask Wrocklaw.

He moved to Tannadice last summer after a season in Norway with Tromso.
