Scotland Under-21 defender Marcus Fraser has won a two-year contract extension with Ross County.

The 20-year-old full-back signed for County until the summer after being released by Celtic in January.

But he has impressed manager Jim McIntyre in his eight appearances for the Scottish Premiership club.

News of the new contract comes the day after he was named in Danny Lennon's Scotland Under-21 squad to face Hungary next week.

Fraser, who only made one appearance for Celtic and started the season on loan to Championship club Cowdenbeath, has already played five times for the young Scots.

McIntyre said County are "absolutely thrilled" to secure Fraser on a longer deal and conceded that it was a big commitment by the Dingwall club to offer that length of deal considering they are not free of relegation trouble despite a recent upturn in results.

"He's done exceptionally well since he's come in the door, shown a fantastic attitude and appetite to get back playing at the highest level," he said.

"He had a really serious knee injury at Celtic and it shows great character that he's bounced back and he's done well.

"We feel he's the type that we want to bring to the club."
