Coventry City have confirmed that there will be no managerial appointment before this Saturday and Dave Hockaday and Neil MacFarlane will take charge for the home game with MK Dons.

"It's vital to get the right person at the right juncture in their career," said chief executive Steve Waggott, in the wake of Steve Pressley's sacking.

"But there will not be an appointment before the weekend's game.

"It is important that the fans get behind Neil, Dave and the players."

Waggott confirmed that he had already had meetings with candidates for the vacant job, and more are scheduled.

"We want to accelerate the process. There has been very positive interest in the position and some very interesting candidates have come forward," he said.

"As I've said before, we've got a mini-season coming up, so it's important we get make the right appointment from what is an extremely impressive list of candidates."

MacFarlane, 37, who was Pressley's number two, has been at Coventry for the past two years since being appointed by the Scot when he first took charge in March 2013.

The much-travelled Hockaday, 57, who spent a brief spell working with Saturday's opponents MK Dons under Martin Allen in 2007, only joined the Sky Blues on 2 February as professional development coach until the end of the season.
