Shrewsbury Town have signed striker Tyrone Barnett from Peterborough United on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Barnett, 29, became Posh's first 拢1m player when he moved to London Road from Crawley in May 2012.

He has since netted eight times in 40 games, as well scoring six goals in 14 appearances out on loan at Oxford United, who were hopeful of turning his move into a more permanent deal.

He moves for an undisclosed fee, understood to be close to 拢100,000.

No shortage of goals in Shropshire

The Town have scored 29 of this season's 40 League Two goals at home. Saturday's 1-0 win at Newport, courtesy of Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's late goal, was only their 11th away goal, to earn a fourth victory on their travels.

James Collins, Shrewsbury's 16-goal top scorer when they were promoted two years ago, again leads the way this season with 14 to his name.

Former AFC Telford United forward Barnett played for a clutch of other non-league clubs, Rushall Olympic, Willenhall Town and Hednesford Town before getting his first taste of league football at Macclesfield.

He then moved to Crawley Town following their promotion to the league in 2011, before moving again in February 2012, initially on loan, to Peterborough, where he scored four goals in his first six Championship appearances.

But he struggled in his first full season, netting just once for Posh before joining Ipswich Town on loan, as well having a further loan spell with Bristol City.

He becomes the second striker signed by League Two leaders Shrewsbury in four days following the arrival of youngster Mikael Mandron from Premier League side Sunderland on a youth loan.

Mandron signed until the end of the season as cover for Town's second top scorer, 10-goal Andy Mangan, who has seen a specialist over his knee injury.
