Tom Pope: Barnsley target Port Vale striker as Reece Brown exits

Barnsley are trying to sign striker Tom Pope from League One rivals Port Vale, a day before the clubs face each other.
Pope, 29, who has hit 53 league goals in 145 games at Vale, will be out of contract in June and has been told he must take a pay-cut if he is to stay.
"He's very experienced and scores goals at this level. Whether it gets over the line in time's another matter," manager Danny Wilson told 91热爆 Radio Sheffield.

After being signed from another south Yorkshire side, Rotherham United, in 2011, Tom Pope hit 31 league goals in Vale's 2012-13 promotion-winning campaign as they returned to League One for the first time since 2008. |
Meanwhile, defender Reece Brown has left Barnsley by mutual consent.
The 23-year-old joined from Watford on a one-year deal in July, and started the club's first 10 games of the season.
"We've seen the emergence of James Bree and Mason Holgate in particular and didn't work out for Reece - it doesn't always," Wilson explained.
