Cardiff manager Russell Slade faces a difficult task trying to rebuild the squad after his predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's lesson in "how not to manage a club".

That is the view of former Bluebirds captain Jason Perry, who expects a busy first transfer window for Slade.

Perry believes Slade's biggest challenge will be repairing the damage of Solskjaer's reign.

"It tells you how not to manage a club," said Perry.

"It's a big job. Hopefully Cardiff have learned their lesson.

"It's the job of Russell Slade now to go through the squad. There are a lot of players to keep happy."

Slade, who was appointed in October, has said he wants to reduce the size of Cardiff's squad, and that process is well under way.

Norwegian pair Mats Moller Daehli and Magnus Wolf Eikrem, both Solskjaer signings, have left.

Another of Solskjaer's Norwegian recruits, Jo Inge Berget, is also likely to depart after returning from his loan at Celtic, while Spanish striker Javi Guerra is set to join Malaga.

"It shows just how badly run the club was at that time, and I include the manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer," said Perry.

"He was bringing in players with no game plan, he was just looking at the individuals.

"You cannot build a team, when you want to go and get success, by bringing in individuals."

Slade has made two signings during the January transfer window, with left-back Scott Malone joining from Millwall and striker Alex Revell making the move from Rotherham.

Both joined for relatively low fees, and Perry believes a more prudent approach could suit Cardiff.

"Russell Slade now has a clear idea in his head how he wants to play, and he's looking to bring players in to enable him to execute that game plan," he added.

"I'm not saying it's going to be a success but I just sense Russell Slade has a plan.

"Only time will tell if the plan will be successful."
