Manager Ronnie Moore was pleased to see some strength in depth within his Hartlepool United squad after their 2-0 win against Cheltenham.

Pools ended a 12-game winless run at Victoria Park, Moore's first victory since taking charge.

The presence of the experienced Nicky Featherstone and Matthew Bates as unused substitutes was a boost.

"The first thing for me now is looking at the bench - it is strong as well," Moore told 91Èȱ¬ Tees.

"There are people on there who know what the game is about when we've had a lot of young players on there in the past so that's a good thing.

"If we bring two more into the squad that will be five on loan and you don't know at this level, you're as capable of going five games winning as you are losing them."

Since arriving to replace sacked Paul Murray last month, Moore has been tasked with trying to retain the club's Football League status.

Only Carlisle United have conceded more goals in League Two this season, so Saturday's clean sheet for goalkeeper Scott Flinders was a bonus, only the fourth achieved by Pools this season.

"I'm disappointed that we only won 2-0, but I'll take it every week," he said.

"We created chances that we haven't done in the past, but the clean sheet was the big thing.

"If you stop conceding then you can always win the game on your set-plays, if you're not creating anything. That was the pleasing thing for me."
