Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney says his side will not get carried away, despite a run of seven straight league wins.

"We have to make sure we just focus on the next game because if we don't, and get carried away, then that's when you get a bit of a slap in the face," said the Irishman.

"We're in a good position. We'd much rather be top than bottom."

Rooney notched a double in the 2-0 win over Motherwell to cement the Dons' place at the top of the Premiership.

"That's seven wins on the run now, we're not conceding goals so we'll just focus on ourselves and let other teams worry about each other," he told 91热爆 Scotland.

"We're obviously very pleased where we are at the minute. We've been in very good form of late, we've been playing very well.

"We look solid, we're not conceding goals and we're always likely to create a few chances and put something away.

"We're obviously enjoying the run of form we're on at the minute. We just have to work hard to make sure we keep it up."

Manager Derek McInnes felt his side's dominance at Fir Park should have yielded more goals, but Rooney takes some comfort from the opportunities being carved out in the first place.

"It's a good thing to be missing chances rather than not creating them," said Rooney, whose brace at Fir Park took him to 19 goals for the season.

"You have to take the positives from it. Obviously we could have had a couple more. It's good that we're creating the chances and I'm sure if we keep playing that way we'll give someone a doing."

Rooney joined teammates Andrew Considine, Johnny Hayes and Niall McGinn in signing a new contract at Pittodrie recently, and hopes to see the likes of Ryan Jack and David Goodwillie commit their futures to the club in the near future.

He added: "The two lads are playing well. It's good to see lads commit to the club for a longer term, so hopefully we can keep this group together and build on it."
