St Mirren have lodged an appeal against Kenny McLean's red card in Thursday's 2-1 defeat by Kilmarnock.

The midfielder, 22, was dismissed by referee Willie Collum for his reaction to a foul on team-mate Sean Kelly by Ross Barbour.

After the match, Buddies caretaker manager Gary Teale described the sending off as "very soft".

Meanwhile, defender Ellis Plummer has cut short his one-year loan at St Mirren to return to Manchester City.

The 20-year-old, who was restricted to eight Buddies appearances because of injury, "Would like to say thanks to the supporters and club."

St Mirren travel to take Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday and McLean is free to play while his appeal is pending.
