Bafetimbi Gomis started ahead of Wilfried Bony against Hull and came close to doubling Swansea's lead

Ashley Williams thinks Bafetimbi Gomis will be an able replacement for Wilfried Bony when he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Ivory Coast player Bony is Swansea City's leading goal scorer this season with eight goals in his last 16 games.

But Gomis started in his place in Swansea's 1-0 win at Hull and Williams was impressed with the French striker's performance.

"I was pleased for Bafi, I thought he had a really good game," Williams said.

"It would have been nice for him to score but... he did well and I see him in training, he's a really good player.

"It's been a bit tough but with Wilf doing so well you have to be patient... but I'm sure he'll get a lot of chances.

"With Wilf going away in January he'll be the main man I presume and I'm sure he can get the job done."

Hull 0-1 Swansea: Garry Monk praises Ki Sung-Yeung

With one eye on a busy festive period, Swansea manager Garry Monk made seven changes to his starting XI for the trip to the KC Stadium, opting to rest the likes of Bony, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Leon Britton and Jefferson Montero.

That paid off as Swansea claimed victory through Ki Sung-Yueng's deflected goal after a Jonjo Shelvey shot, while Shelvey and Gomis also hit the post.

"We were under a lot of pressure, we went ahead first, we had a lot more chances to score but didn't let that [not converting them] affect us," Swansea captain Williams added.

"We kept a clean sheet away from home at a difficult place, so it was a good day for us."

Swansea are eighth in the Premier League table and next face Aston Villa at home on Boxing Day.

Monk's side then travel to Liverpool on 29 December, Queen's Park Rangers on New Year's Day, before a third trip in quick succession to Tranmere Rovers on 3 January in the FA Cup third round.

The Africa Cup of Nations runs from 17 January to 8 February.
