Oxford United striker James Constable says he is "desperate" to renew his contract, but a deal is not yet guaranteed.

The 29-year-old is currently the U's top scorer for the sixth season in a row and is only three goals behind the club's all-time record of 107.

"I'm desperate to get something sorted and hopefully stay at the football club," Constable told 91热爆 Radio Oxford.

"Hopefully in the next few weeks it will be tied up."

Speaking earlier this month, Oxford's owner Ian Lenagan revealed the club were open to having talks with Constable over a new contract.

"What the outcome will be, I'm not sure. We'll happily discuss it," Lenagan said.

"I think James has an excellent record for Oxford United.

"I've had two calls from his agent today and we'll be happy to have those conversations."

Constable has scored 10 goals in 35 appearances so far this season and would like to extend his U's career.

"I definitely don't feel more secure. On my side of it, I'm desperate to stay," he said.

"It's not up to me. I've just got to go out there and perform and hopefully things will be sorted out."
