Boss Brian McDermott says Leeds United's 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday was a "public humiliation".

The defeat came on the back of Leeds' exit from the FA Cup to League Two Rochdale which McDermott had called the lowest point of his career.

Leeds are four points outside the Championship play-off places in 11th.

"In a local derby, it is a public humiliation as far as I'm concerned. That was unbelievable," McDermott said.

"The response has to start on Sunday morning and I'll go back to basics with this team to do whatever we've got to do as a group.

"I don't distance myself from the players because I'm part of the group. We've had a good run to get to 35 points, but we're having a poor time now.

"It's a terrible time for Leeds United, the supporters and us."

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker boss Stuart Gray plans to speak to Owls chairman Milan Mandaric about taking over the manager's position at Hillsborough on a permanent basis.

"It was a good result and a good performance, hopefully a 6-0 win will help me to get the job. I'll sit down and have a glass of wine with the chairman," he said.
