Gillingham 1-0 Carlisle United

  • Published

Gillingham narrowly beat Carlisle as both sides ended the game with 10 men.

Danny Kedwell scored with a penalty for his sixth goal in six games, after Danny Livesey felled Danny Hollands.

Carlisle then saw Lee Miller sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Adam Barrett, before Gills defender Leon Legge received his second booking.

The visitors had a penalty shout of their own, but their appeals for handball against Michael Harriman were waved away.

"Our first half performance was very, very, poor. The booing we got at half-time, I said if I was in the crowd watching I'd have been booing the loudest. It wasn't acceptable.

"Second half we grafted away, it wasn't a good performance but we kept going. The players worked extremely hard to get a result.

"Danny Kedwell's performance was outstanding. He was very happy to go centre-half when Leon Legge was sent off.

"We're in a relegation scrap, let's be honest, so we need fighting performances. I'm sure the crowd appreciated the second half and were bored stiff in the first."
