Crewe Alexandra 0-3 Stevenage

  • Published

Filipe Morais's brace helped lift Stevenage out of the relegation zone with victory at Crewe.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring for Graham Westley's side, running onto Francois Zoko's flick-on before neatly clipping the ball over Alex keeper Steve Phillips.

Luke Freeman doubled their advantage from a tight angle after Phillips saved his initial effort.

Morais then chipped into the top corner to make it 3-0 inside 20 minutes.

It could have been a bigger win for the visitors with Zoko hitting the post, while Michael Doughty and substitute James Dunne were denied by Phillips after the break.

Post-match: Stevenage boss Westley

"Defensively we looked much better organised, offensively we looked like we've got a threat and a goal in us.

"The entire attitude of the team is changing, the winning mentality is coming back.

"It's been a hard battle to create a mindset in the football club that Stevenage are going to come and take the game to you.

"Morais and Zoko's combination play was too much for them to handle tonight."
