Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Colchester United

  • Published

Colchester came from behind to pick up a point against Shrewsbury but their run without a League One win was extended to 11 games.

The hosts took the lead when Cristian Lopez headed in Adam Reach's cross.

Shrewsbury forced goalkeeper Sam Walker into several good saves before a low shot from Marcus Bean gave Colchester an equaliser against the run of play.

The teams cancelled each other out after the break but Gavin Massey went close to a late winner for the U's.

Shrewsbury's point was their seventh draw in 13 League One games this season, leaving Graham Turner's side 15th in the table.

On-loan Wolves striker Liam McAlinden made his first start for Shrewsbury, being paired up front with fellow loan man Lopez.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told 91热爆 Radio Shropshire:

"On the evidence of the first half, we should have taken all three points, but you can take nothing for granted in this league.

"For the first 44 minutes, we played well and had a number of good situations that we should have done better with.

"In a period like that, you have to kill the opposition off. Then we've conceded such a bad goal right on half-time and we never recovered.

"We got very anxious in the second half and the longer the game went on, you could see the anxiety sneaking in. It's an unforgiving league.

Colchester United manager Joe Dunne told 91热爆 Essex:

"We conceded an early goal, which really changed the dynamic of the game, and then we lost Freddie Sears.

"I thought for 30 minutes we were sloppy. We never passed the ball properly, we never won tackles and they were well worth the 1-0.

"We changed it tactically 10 minutes before half-time and then we started to get a foothold in the game.

"Second half, I thought we did very well. I think we deserved to win the game, we pushed forward for the second goal and we missed good opportunities."
