Jose Baxter could leave Oldham before the end of the transfer window after manager Lee Johnson confirmed there has been interest in the forward.

"We have had an approach and some interest in Jose and we have to decide whether or not it is right for the club," Johnson told the

"It may not happen and I would say it is very much 50-50 at the moment."

Meanwhile, Oldham have signed defender Matteo Lanzoni on a four-month deal, subject to international clearance.

The 25-year-old, a former Italy Under-19 international, has been training with the Latics for two weeks, having played in Serie C1 for Carrarese last season.

Baxter, 21, was a free agent when he joined Oldham in September 2012 and has scored 17 goals for the club.

Shortly before his move to Boundary Park, Baxter told 91热爆 Sport he was back living with his parents, having turned down a contract to remain at Everton and then failing to earn a deal following a trial at Crystal Palace.

He was instrumental in Oldham's run to the fifth round of the FA Cup last season, and in January he agreed a contract up to the summer of 2015.

Johnson added: "We have to decide whether it is right for all parties, whether we can replace him, and does he want to go or stay?

"Jose is a great player and we don't want to lose him. I am sure whether it is here or elsewhere, he will go on and do well in football because he is a good lad."
