Manager Michael Laudrup denies Swansea City have made formal bids to sign Getafe striker Alvaro Vazquez and West Bromwich Albion's Peter Odemwingie.

But the Swansea manager admits the pair fit the "profile" of players he wants to bring to the Liberty Stadium.

Laudrup has stated he wants to sign another striker before the transfer window closes.

"The only thing I can confirm is that there is nothing near to being done," said Laudrup.

"On the other hand, when do you know when you are close to a deal? You never know."

Vazquez, 22, is a former Spain Under-21 international and was joint top-scorer at the Under-20 World Cup in 2011.

He made his Primera Liga debut with Espanyol against Real Madrid but moved to Getafe at the start of the 2012-13 season.

Laudrup managed Spanish club Getafe and led them to the Copa del Rey and the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup before he resigned after only a year in charge in 2008.

"He [Vasquez] is young, a little different and a player I know, he played in Espanyol and now he plays in Getafe," said Laudrup.

"He is a younger one, a forward and he can play wide. He has the characteristics we are talking about, like Odemwingie.

"That is why these names come up, because they both fit into the profile that we are looking for."

West Brom manager Steve Clarke has already stated he is prepared to let Odemwingie leave the Hawthorns.

Odemwingie was branded "wholly unprofessional" by West Brom after his apparent attempt to open talks with Queen's Park Rangers without the Baggies' permission in January 2013.

The 32-year-old Nigerian international arrived at Loftus Road on transfer deadline day, but West Brom stated no fee had been agreed and he was not free to discuss personal terms.

While Laudrup denied he has made a formal bid for either player, he did reveal he was talking to players and looking to make new signings to add to his squad at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans manager admitted he hopes to have done any deals before the last day of the transfer window on Monday, 2 September.

He also spoke of his frustrations at the transfer window and how managers and clubs "panic" as the countdown begins.

"I would like to avoid at all costs to arrive at the last day [needing to complete a transfer]," said Laudrup.

"I remember last days and I don't have very good experiences with last days, because so many things happen and it's the same here, like in Spain and everywhere.

"Some people panic on the last day - you think you have one [player] and someone comes in from the left and takes away a player you thought you had, or a club says he will stay here."
