Brighton captain Gordon Greer says the side will learn the lessons from defeats in their opening two games.

Albion followed up a 2-1 defeat at Leeds by exiting the Capital One Cup at the hands of side Newport County.

"It's not been great to lose the two games but we can take the positives and the negatives," he told 91热爆 Sussex.

"At this stage of the season we are looking to improve a lot so it is good to sometimes highlight the issues we have got and address them."

The 32-year-old added: "We did the same last year [losing in the League Cup to Swindon and their opening Championship match to Hull] and had a relatively successful season so hopefully we can do the same again this year.

"Once the new manager [Oscar Garcia] and staff came in they gave us what they wanted to bring to the team.

"We have been doing our best to carry it out."

Meanwhile, the centre-back is excited to be in the Scotland squad for next week's friendly against England.

"You strive your whole career to get into the national squad and it is a massive honour to be picked to represent my country," he said.

"I'll go and train hard and hopefully I can impress the manager and get a chance.

"England-Scotland games don't happen that often so to be part of it would be fantastic."
