Tranmere Rovers have signed striker Akpo Sodje, who was a free agent after being released by relegated Scunthorpe.

The 33-year-old appeared in League One for both Preston and the Iron last season, scoring 13 goals in 33 outings.

Sodje has agreed a one-year contract at Prenton Park, with the option of extending the deal by a further year.

Meanwhile, teenage Inter Milan forward and Portugal Under-19 international Bocar Djumo is training with the League One club ahead of a possible loan move.

"I'd rather have too many strikers than too few," manager Ronnie Moore told after a friendly victory at Marine on Saturday.

"It might be that we end up with five strikers, but we want to make sure we don't get caught out again, like we were last year."

Tranmere began the 2012-13 campaign in superb form, with on-loan Jake Cassidy and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro proving to be a prolific strike partnership, the pair contributing 17 goals by the end of October.

However, , external and Akpa Akpro's injury problems left Rovers short of options and they eventually dropped out of promotion contention.

Veteran Ryan Lowe, who signed a two-year contract with Tranmere in June after leaving MK Dons, has netted eight goals in four friendly appearances for Rovers.

"He's a natural goalscorer and I wish I'd had him four or five years ago," added Moore.

"He'll be playing with good players and he'll be playing regularly. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get 20 goals [this season]."
