Malawi have appointed Tom Saintfiet as their coach, agreeing a two-month contract with the Belgian.

Saintfiet said: "The goal is to try to help qualify Malawi for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. I will work with a strong team of local coaches."

Malawi will play their last Group F qualifier against Nigeria on 6 September, knowing a win will put them through to the play-offs.

The Super Eagles lead the group on nine points, two ahead of the Flames.

"I know Nigeria and I know Malawi, I am convinced that Malawi has the quality to win," added Saintfeit, who will fly out to Malawi on Thursday to watch the friendly match against Mozambique on 6 July.

Malawi will face Zimbabwe in the Cosafa Cup one week later.

The 40-year-old Saintfiet, who has coached in Africa with Namibia, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia, has volunteered his services to Malawi for free.

Football Association of Malawi(FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu said: "He has only asked us to pay for his travel from Belgium as well as his stay. But he wants a substantial appearance fee if we beat Nigeria."

Nyamilandu added that current caretaker coach Edington Ng'onamo will be demoted to deputy for Cosafa Cup and at a later date, temporary assistant coaches Ernest Mtawali and Patrick Mabedi will be dropped.
