Calvin Zola may leave Burton Albion, says Gary Rowett

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett has admitted he may have trouble hanging on to striker Calvin Zola for next season.

Zola, 28, who scored 16 goals for the Brewers last term, is now a free agent but has been offered a new deal.

Rowett told 91热爆 Radio Derby: "I've sat down with Calvin and said 'I'd really, really love to keep you'.

"I think Calvin's heart is at Burton, but if a League Two footballer gets offered a lot more money somewhere else, it's going to be attractive."

The striker netted twice in the League Two play-off semi-final first-leg victory at Bradford, although the Brewers lost the home meeting to go out 5-4 on aggregate.

DR Congo-born Zola began his career with Newcastle United and also had spells with Oldham, Tranmere and Crewe, before joining Burton in July 2011 following a loan spell.

"We've provided a platform for Calvin to go and play well enough to maybe have one or two options," added Rowett.

"That's great. We're doing the job correctly and if players move on, that's brilliant.

"We have five or six other names which we feel, could be equal to someone like Calvin if he chooses to go elsewhere."
