Shrewsbury Town midfielder Aaron Wildig has signed a new one-year contract.

Wildig, 21, first joined Town on loan from Cardiff City in November 2011.

After a handful of games, his deal was then extended for the whole campaign in January, completing his move to the Meadow at the end of the season, when he signed a 12-month contract.

"In the lower leagues, you're on year-to-year deals and I didn't particularly think I would get a contract so being offered one was pleasing," he said.

"I didn't have the best season, but I'm a young player, I think the gaffer still sees potential in me, and I'm not breaking the bank here to stay."

The Hereford-born Wales youth international, who made 16 starts for Shrewsbury last season, is the first of the club's six out-of-contract players to sign a new deal.

Town boss Graham Turner is still waiting to hear back from striker Tom Bradshaw, midfielders Jon Taylor and Ryan Woods and defenders Connor Goldson and Jermaine Grandison.

Injured right-back Grandison, who is set to go under the surgeon's knife on Tuesday, is expected to be sidelined until November by the hip problem that kept him sidelined for much of the final three months of the season.

Having been sent to one of the country's top hip specialists in Cambridge, he will undergo the first of two operations that will involve a spur of bone being shaved off in both of his hips.
