Roy Martin QC will oversee the investigation of claims of "connections between Craig Whyte and former and current personnel of Rangers".

Rangers commissioned the independent examination following former owner Whyte's threat of court action to prove he still owns the club's assets.

Whyte said he was behind the Charles Green-led purchase of Rangers' assets last year.

Green, who has denied any wrongdoing, has since resigned as chief executive.

A Rangers spokesman said: "Further to previous announcements concerning the investigation by Rangers International Football Club plc ("Rangers") into any connections between Craig Whyte and former and current personnel of Rangers and its subsidiaries, Pinsent Masons, the law firm conducting the investigation, have engaged a Queen's Counsel, Roy Martin QC, to oversee the independent investigation."

Since Rangers announced they would hold an independent investigation, the Scottish FA has asked the Ibrox club for further information regarding allegations of Green's dealings with Whyte.

Following Green's resignation, his business partner, Imran Ahmad, who had been Rangers' commercial director, also left the Third Division champions at the weekend.
