Southampton captain Adam Lallana has signed a new five-year contract.

The 24-year-old midfielder is a product of the Saints' youth system and has made almost 200 first-team appearances.

He scored 13 goals as the Saints won promotion to the Premier League last season and has been a key figure this term - earning a call up to the England squad in September.

"I've been at the club since I was 12 and I can only see my future lying with Southampton FC," Lallana said.

"I can't wait to work with the new management team and the lads to continue our progress in the Premier League. It was an easy decision for me with the direction the club is going in.

"If someone was to say that I'd end my career playing for Southampton in the Premier League then I'd snap your hand off for it."

Lallana, who remains uncapped despite his call up to train with the England squad earlier in the season, follows Kelvin Davies, Rickie Lambert, Morgan Schneiderlin and Jason Puncheon in signing a new deal with the club in recent weeks.

Under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Saints have lost only three matches since January and are 11th in the Premier League.
