Millwall striker Andy Keogh has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria.

Keogh had not been included in Giovanni Trapattoni's initial squad of 29 players, but is named in the final 23.

Wolves forward Kevin Doyle, Joey O'Brien, Alex Pearce and Stephen Ward have all been dropped from the panel.

Paul McShane, Aiden McGeady and Anthony Pilkington have all been ruled out through injury.

Trapattoni waited until Saturday's English Premier League and Championship matches were played to determine the fitness of some players, and see who came through this weekend's games without injury.

"As a manager, I am sometimes faced with some very tough decisions, but I feel that the squad I have chosen will get us the results we need from these two qualifiers," said Republic manager Giovanni Trapattoni.

"I have not made these choices lightly, and will continue to monitor each player's progress ahead of our next challenges in May and June."

The Republic of Ireland squad assembles for training in Malahide on Sunday.
