Michael Gash departs Cambridge for Kidderminster

Cambridge United striker Michael Gash has joined Kidderminster Harriers on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

Harriers striker Nathan Blissett is moving in the opposite direction, joining the U's on a one-month loan.

Cambridge director of football Jez George said 26-year-old Gash saw his future away from the Abbey Stadium.

"We did everything possible to convince him to sign a new contract,"

"We have been trying to negotiate a contract with Michael since January. We turned down a bid for Michael from a club in this league in January.

"However, given the fact that we are now seven weeks away from the end of the season and Michael could leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract, this deal represents good business for the club.

"In agreeing a loan fee with Kidderminster which will increase based on their performance, this represents a good deal.

George added: "This was not a decision made for financial reasons but Michael made it clear to us in the last few days that he was desperate to have this opportunity at Kidderminster and once a player makes it clear he wants to leave the most pragmatic course of action is to then ensure the club receives the best possible financial remuneration."

Gash has scored 14 goals in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season, 13 for Cambridge and one for Braintree last September during a loan spell with the Essex club.

Blissett, 23, joined Kidderminster last year from Northern Premier First Division South outfit Romulus. He has started 15 league games for Harriers this term, scoring three times.
