Chesterfield confirm John Sheridan resignation

Chesterfield have confirmed that manager John Sheridan has resigned as manager of the club, five weeks after being placed on gardening leave.
The Spireites relieved Sheridan of his managerial duties after failing to win any of their first three League Two fixtures this season.
"John Sheridan has resigned from his position as manager of Chesterfield FC with effect from 18 September.
"We wish him well for the future."
The 48-year-old led the Spireites to the League Two title in 2010/11 and victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last season.
However, they were relegated back to the bottom tier in May and Sheridan paid the price for a slow start on 28 August.
Sheridan's assistant Tommy Wright was placed in caretaker charge following his exit.
