Manager Liam Watson is confident that Southport will soon be as fit and strong as their full-time counterparts in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The Sandgrounders have collected nine points from eight league matches.

"It's really tough for the part-time clubs," Watson told "It's catch-up for us for the first quarter of the season.

"The full-time teams have got so many additional sessions, but the longer the season goes on, we'll get stronger."

Southport finished seventh last season, five points away from a play-off position.

They made a slow start to 2012-13, failing to win any of their first four games, but Watson is feeling much more content after four points from the last two matches against , external and Kidderminster.

"I've been in this league long enough to say any point you get, whether it's at home or away, is always a good point," he added.

"It's a tough league with some tough sides. Wins are really tough to come by so you make sure you enjoy every win you possibly can and take home every point you possibly can."
