Hull City boss Steve Bruce says midfielder Tom Cairney could be out for six months after a "horror tackle" by Doncaster full-back James Husband.

The Tigers lost 3-2 to the League One side in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

"I've seen it as an absolute horror tackle but the referee hasn't even booked the guy for it," Bruce told 91热爆 Radio Humberside.

"I think he could be out for a very long time, between three to six months I'd say."

The 21-year-old, who had earlier hit the crossbar, was subbed off after initially trying to continue following the incident.

Bruce accepted the red card shown to Cairney's replacement, Paul McKenna, after an off-the-ball altercation with Doncaster skipper Rob Jones.

"I've got no complaints about that," he added.

"Someone of his experience knows better than to kick out like that. That crazy decision from him has probably cost us the game because it gave them momentum."
