John Coleman is confident that Ashley Grimes will remain a Rochdale player, after confirming Crawley Town have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old striker.

"I spoke to Ashley and I told him I didn't want him to go," Rochdale boss Coleman told 91热爆 Radio Manchester.

"He told me he was happy at Rochdale, he loves the style of football we're playing and he's relishing the chance of being successful here."

Rochdale opened the League Two season with a 0-0 draw against Northampton.

Grimes, who can also play as a winger, scored 11 goals in 42 games for Dale in 2011-12 and has started both games so far this season.

Coleman, who has just begun his first full season in charge at Spotland, added that he would be "disappointed" if any players left the club before the end of the transfer window.

Crawley boss Richie Barker has added two new signings since leaving Bury to take over at the Red Devils.

Nicky Ajose and Jonathan Forte both joined Crawley on loan on Friday, and Forte marked his debut with the third goal in their 3-0 win against Scunthorpe 24 hours later.
