Huddersfield Town have signed Cardiff City defender Anthony Gerrard for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old did not play for the Bluebirds after missing the vital penalty in their Carling Cup final loss to Liverpool in February.

He was also left out of Cardiff's pre-season tour by manager Malky Mackay.

"We've worked very hard to seal his signature amid a lot of competition from other clubs."

Gerrard, cousin of Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard, joined Cardiff from Walsall in 2009 and spent the 2010-11 campaign on loan at Hull City.

The former Everton trainee is the latest of a string of acquisitions by Town manager Simon Grayson as he prepares the newly promoted Terriers for life in the Championship.

Other summer signings include Adam Clayton from Leeds, midfielder Oliver Norwood from Manchester United, defender Paul Dixon from Dundee United and winger Sean Scannell from Crystal Palace.

The West Yorkshire club have also demonstrated their intent by turning down an offer believed to be worth up to 拢4m for star striker Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn Rovers.
