Notts County have released goalkeeper Stuart Nelson but have offered defender Mike Edwards a one-year contract.

Nelson, 30, played 52 games for the Magpies last season but is one of 13 players released by boss Keith Curle.

Defenders Sam Sodje, 31, and Jon Harley, 32, and striker Karl Hawley have also been released and is available for transfer.

But Edwards, 32, and midfielder Gavin Mahon, 35, have been offered new deals.

Long-serving former captain Edwards and Mahon have until 25 May to make a decision on their future.

Nelson was a key figure as the Magpies narrowly missed out on a League One play-off place last season and had said he was desperate to sign a new deal to stay at Meadow Lane.

Earlier this week, he told "If someone put a contract in front of me I would sign. I can't turn away from this club.

"I love being here. There is nothing in me that will be looking around wanting to see what else is better out there."

Eight loan players - including Jonathan Forte, Lloyd Sam and Daniel Bogdanovic - have all returned to their parent clubs.
