Steven Howarth has left Motherwell after coming to an agreement to terminate his contract four months before it was due to expire.

The former Clyde striker signed a one-year deal during the summer after an impressive stint with Well's under-19s.

However, the route to first-team football was blocked by Michael Higdon, Jamie Murphy, Omar Daley, Bob McHugh, Henrik Ojamaa and Gary Smith.

Howarth spent a short spell on loan at Alloa Athletic earlier in the campaign.

The 19-year-old joined Motherwell in 2010 after breaking into Third Division outfit Clyde's first team.
