Benin have appointed former France international Manuel Amoros is their new coach.

The 49-year-old takes over from Edme Codjo, who had been in charge since August.

Amoros, will be assisted by fellow Frenchman Nicolas Philibert, is expected in Cotonou on Friday to sign a two-year deal.

Despite appearing at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, Benin will not be contesting the 2012 finals.

One of his immediate tasks will be to prepare the team for next month's 2013 Nations Cup qualifier away to Ethiopia - with the home leg taking place in June.

That same month, the Squirrels kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup, where they must overcome Algeria, Rwanda and Mali to have a chance of reaching the finals.

Amoros, who has worked in Kuwait as assistant coach, was formally in charge of Comoros.
