Brentford were denied a first win in five games when Harlee Dean scored an own goal to earn a point for Tranmere.
The hosts led when Martin Devaney blasted home from Jose Baxter's cross.
Dean missed three headed chances for the Bees, but Gary Alexander levelled when Rovers failed to clear Clayton Donaldson's cross.
Alexander set up Donaldson to power home for 2-1 but Dean deflected Danny Holmes's cross past Richard Lee into his own net.
He could have proved Brentford's hero but his shot was blocked on the line by Ash Taylor.
The Bees are five points off the top six, while Tranmere six 17th, nine points ahead of the drop zone.

Poor defending disappoints Parry
Tranmere manager Les Parry told 91热爆 Radio Merseyside:
"We both had periods of the game where we could have scored more goals.
"In the first half Paul Rachubka didn't make a save and he's picked the ball out of the net twice and I thought we were unfortunate to go in 2-1 at half time.
"I hope they (the dubious goals panel) don't take the goal away from Danny Holmes, but I have a feeling they might do."
Inexperience cost Brentford - Rosler
Brentford boss Uwe Rosler told 91热爆 London 94.9:
"We are giving goals away at the moment, and it is difficult to stay in contention with the top six.
"Overall I am happy with the way we are playing but we are paying the price for inexperience at the moment.
"We played our own game, we knew where we could hurt them and we hurt them a lot today but unfortunately not rewarded with three points."
