Teenage striker Max Clayton believes he is ready to play regularly for Crewe in the Football League after scoring a stoppage-time winner at Morecambe.

The 17-year-old substitute netted his first league goal to give Steve Davis his first win as manager of the Alex.

"Personally I feel I'm ready to start but obviously I've got to wait for my chance," Clayton told 91热爆 Radio Stoke.

"I was desperate to come on because I thought I could come on and do a job, and I've got the winner."

The England Under-18 international added: "I've supported Crewe as a boy and I can't describe what it's like to score for them."

Clayton scored on his only professional start for Crewe against Macclesfield in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in October, but has yet to start a league game for the Alex.

International team-mate Nick Powell also found the net on Saturday as Crewe came from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Globe Arena.

"Nick's a great talent and he scores goals like that every day in training," added Clayton, who is the son of former Crewe striker Paul.

"He wasn't playing that well at the time but he's got that spark, so he has to play."
