Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed an interest in Chelsea's England Under-21 midfielder Josh McEachran.

Rodgers is hoping the Blues decide to make the youngster available for loan.

The Swans manager would be keen to bring McEachran to the Liberty Stadium in January.

"He is a wonderful talent and the positive thing is that clubs see Swansea as a club that can develop such talents," said Rodgers.

"I need to have a conversation at length [with Chelsea]," said Rodgers, who worked as youth and reserve team coach at Stamford Bridge.

"Josh is not playing at the moment, he is on the bench, although he played [against Everton].

"He has a big future, he played in the same team as my son right through the system at Chelsea and has kicked on since he turned 14.

"He has got great vision, he is a terrific footballer and he needs to play in a certain system.

"I think [Chelsea manager] Andre [Villas-Boas] and [sporting director] Michael Emenolo understand he will need to get some games and when that moment comes he is certainly a player who would do terrific here."

But Rodgers is cautious about attracting McEachran.

He does not believe Swansea would be the favourites to seal a loan move for him despite his obvious links with Chelsea.

"All we can do is our best, we try to be in the market for the very best players," he said.

"We don't have the finances to buy such players but if it allows us to loan players then I would be confident in what we could give such a player."

But Rodgers has attracted Chelsea players on loan before.

Last season Italian Under-21 striker Fabio Borini came to the Liberty on loan from February until the end of the season.

And played his part in securing the Swans promotion to the Premier League before signing for Parma in the summer.
