Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell is giving "immature" winger Lee Martin the silent treatment following his red card against Peterborough on Saturday.

Martin was sent off in the 7-1 loss after a late challenge on Mark Little.

And Jewell, who has concerns over the 24-year-old's discipline, has made Martin train away from the senior side.

"I'm not speaking to him," Jewell told . "Lee Martin has got to earn the right to start training with the first team."

Martin spent much of last season on loan at Charlton, but was welcomed back into the fold by Jewell after he took over at Portman Road in January.

He collected 11 yellow cards across his combined 41 appearances for both sides last term and was sent off against Bristol City in April for a robust tackle on Kalifa Cisse.

The latest blot on his disciplinary record will see him serve a three-match ban.

"He's certainly not a battle-hardened midfield player, he gives silly free-kicks away," said Jewell.

"I've had enough of all that nonsense, I don't mind people getting booked for fair and honest challenges, but when it's silly and petty and when he gets clapped off for getting sent off, that winds me up.

"We're 4-1 down, two minutes before half-time, it was irresponsible.

"Whether it was a sending off was debatable, but to give the referee the opportunity to do it is irresponsible and immature and I've had enough of it."
